I mean, hygiene. I wonder what ours will be like after a few months of traveling.
There will plenty of times when we have to roll out of bed and catch the 5AM bus without showering or washing our hair… but will we come to LIKE it? It was only in the early part of the 20th century that Americans started washing their hair every day or two, and people’s behavior was not changed by doctors or scientists, but by Madison Avenue: ads convinced them that their hair was dirty. Actually, all that washing removes natural oils, which makes our hair dry and brittle, which makes us want to wash it with a moisturizing shampoo!
Right now Karen and I are trying to nail down our world tour haircuts, choosing between short or shorter, which leads to videos like this one (posted for my mom, who likes my hair long).
Ideally, our haircuts will require very little maintenance and little or no hair care product. We hope to do without gel, mousse, a curling iron or a blow dryer. Maybe a little tub of Pomade that can last us a month? Maybe not even that?
