This was fascinating! I’ve read about “pod” hotels in Japan, and it was great to get such a detailed (and funny, HAL) introduction to one. The opportunity to see the check in and other amenities was icing on the cake. Thank you for posting – I’m just loving your blog. Happy travels.
Thanks Terri, it was quite an experience. Glad you are enjoying the blog so much!

Amazing! I’ve heard of these, but never experienced it! (and now I don’t have to – thanks!)
Ha! Well, do try it if you make it to Kyoto or Tokyo. They really are kinda fun!
Wow, I could never sleep in one of those. I am enjoying watching your travels, thanks for sharing.
Love the tour of the capsule hotel…I’ve been waiting for this one.
From the looks of it I was wondering if there’s an Apple store in the lobby as well….
Yeah, this place kind of out-Apples Apple, doesn’t it? No Apple Store in the lobby, but of course, I did go to one of the Apple Stores in Tokyo. It’s four stories of Apple-y goodness: hardware on the first floor, accessories on the second, a presentation room/theater on the third (they were demonstrating some music software, I think), and genius bar and training on the fourth floor. Made me feel right at home. Thanks for checking out the video, Jay!
“Open the pod bay door, Hal!”
“I’m afraid I can’t do that, Dave.”
Thankfully, it was easier than that!!
If it weren’t for copyright, I would have cut in the actual audio of that line from the movie. It fits so well!
Sitting here at Mom’s computer sampling some of your videos and loving them all. Sounds like you two are having a great time. Enjoying your summer on the other side of the world,no doubt… while we’re here surviving through 20 degree weather! Wish we could be there! Thanks for the videos, it’s almost as good as being there!
